Ms. Granat was born in Calcutta, India, to an American WWII pilot and his 'English' wife. Exactly one year to the day after their wedding, Ms. Granat was born. After living in India for 6 years, her father was drafted back due to the Korean War. The family was moved to Japan for 3 years while he flew sorties back and forth to Korea. He was eventually transferred to the East Coast of the USA for two tours (four years each). He went into the Vietnam War for two years and then transferred to Hawaii in 1966, where the family joined him. Having moved so often as a child, Ms. Granat has stayed in Hawaii since 1966 and has no desire to move. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from the University of Hawaii, then taught Ceramics at the Pearl Harbor Subbase Recreation Center until 1979. She later returned to the University of Hawaii to earn a Professional Diploma in Elementary Education. Ms. Granat worked as a teacher until she retired in 2015. While retired, she worked at SES as a substitute teacher and tutored students. Ms. Granat returned to SES as a science and mathematics teacher during the 2018-2019 school year and enjoys working here very much.
